Memphis Depay returned to action as a second-half substitute in the Netherlands' 2-0 World Cup win against Senegal on Monday.

The striker had not featured for Barcelona since September due to an injury and has been tipped to leave Camp Nou in the January transfer window.

Memphis, whose saved shot led to the second Dutch goal, says he was "really happy to be back playing." He added that he "needed a lot of time to recover and reappear."

He explained: "It's not been easy mentally. But I have worked hard to be able to make it and I played for 30 minutes. It's another step forward. It's incredible to play football again."

However, the former Lyon and Manchester United forward would not be drawn on his future beyond the finals in Qatar.

"I don't know what will happen after the World Cup," he said. "The injury has been tough, but I am recovered now and enjoying the World Cup.

"We have a good team that can demonstrate a few things. I don't want to think about the past, I am focused on the World Cup. I don't want to think beyond this competition, either."
