Lionel Messi has always been compared with Diego Maradona. Both No 10s inspired the football world, and after the Argentine maestro won the World Cup on Sunday, in the triumph on penalties against France, there are more similarities still.
There is a famous photo of Maradona lifting the 1986 World Cup, sitting on someone’s shoulders, hoisting the trophy in to the sky.
And that scene repeated itself in Doha, with Messi sitting on Kun Aguero’s shoulders, holding the World Cup trophy.
