Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane sprang a surprise in his line up, dropping Gareth Bale for Isco and breaking up the BBC attack. "If they are fit, the idea is they will play," said the coach when he took over in January 2016. He followed the script and played them when he could. But in the end, when it mattered, Zidane changed the situation to fix the balance of the team. Bale was benched and Madrid benefitted.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo has kept his position in the attack based on performance, and even he is far worse. He's scored 25 in 29 games this season, with 11 of those coming in 7 games. Bale, meanwhile, did well after coming back from injury with five goals in four, but didn't play impressively against Valencia and Levante and was left out against Real Sociedad and in this game.

Benzema, meanwhile, is liked by Zidane but the fans do not think he is worth picking. He can't seem to find the net but Zidane says that "Karim's play allows others to score, with Karim the others play better."
