Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has confirmed Gareth Bale will miss Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

Welsh forward Bale injured his calf against Bayern in last week's 2-1 first leg win in Germany and missed the weekend victory over Sporting Gijon in La Liga.

"Bale has worked so hard to return to the team after the injury he suffered and three months out. When he returned he was excited, but now he has some problems which impede him from playing," Zidane said.

"I hope that it's nothing and that he's not out for long. He won't be with us for Bayern, though, because we don't want to risk him. He is desperate to come back and is working hard to do so. We want him with us for the end of the season."

Zidane couldn't say if Bale will be fit for Sunday's visit from Barcelona in La Liga: "I hope that he can be with us for the Clasico but I can't guarantee anything."
