Real Madrid had a scare but made it through to the Copa del Rey last 16 thanks to a brace from Brahim Diaz.

In Salamanca against the Unionistas Zinedine Zidane picked a strong team and they had the better of the first half.

Gareth Bale, missing in Saudi Arabia, was back and scored with a low, deflected effort.

James Rodriguez hit the bar on his return to the side since that shameful October defeat at Real Mallorca, as Madrid looked for a second.

They didn’t get it and Alvaro Romero fired into the top corner to send the third-tier side level.

However Brahim Diaz levelled and then he struck again at the end to seal the victory.
