Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has spoken again after his controversial comments saying players should not have a pay cut during the coronavirus era.

Kroos published a message on Twitter clearing up his comments - after Madrid officially announced that players would be taking a pay cut.

"It's possible that it wasn't translated correctly or that some people didn't want to understand. From the first moment, my opinion - you know me - is this: If we can help workers and parts of the club, I think it's logical that we give up part of our salary, something that you can see today."

The German had said to SWR sport that players should not have pay cuts but should "help where it is necessary, and there are lots of places where it is necessary."

Madrid players agreed to reduce their salaries between 10-20 per cent, depending on if competitions resume.
