Real Madrid’s new era began in north Africa and it began well, with Santiago Solari’s side thrashing Melilla 4-0 in the Copa del Rey round of 32 first leg on Wednesday.

In the Spanish enclave bordering Morocco they found goals against a fourth-tier opponent, and Vinicius Junior delivered, paying the coach back for starting him.

Solari has only two weeks to prove himself and got off to a flyer, with Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Alvaro Odriozola and substitute Cristo scoring the goals.

Benzema netted from close range after good work from Odriozola, before Vinicius set up Asensio to strike before half-time.

Vinicius struck the crossbar from distance in the second period, and came close to scoring again before Odriozola did, bundling home from close range.

Cristo Gonzalez headed in the fourth in stoppage time to round off the rout and leave Solari smiling.
