Real Madrid have confirmed that defender Raphael Varane will miss this week's Champions League semifinal second leg against Chelsea with an injury.

Varane has only recently returned from coronavirus but went off at half time of Saturday's 2-0 win over Osasuna in La Liga at Valdebebas.

Madrid travel to Chelsea on Wednesday with the score level at 1-1 after the first leg in the Spanish capital last week.

A statement from Los Blancos said: "Following tests carried out by the medical team (on Monday), the first team player Varana has been diagnosed with an injury to his right abductor."

The absence of the French defender adds to coach Zinedine Zidane's injry woes. Sergio Ramos and Ferland Mendy are also doubts, so Nacho and Militao are likely to be the centre-back pairing at Stamford Bridge.

At right-back, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez remain sidelined.
