Real Madrid are having a season to forget in la Liga. They are nine points off the top.
Curiously they are doing worse than Barcelona now than when Julen Lopetegui was in charge. He was sacked after the 5-1 defeat in late October in the Camp Nou Clasico, and replaced by Santiago Solari.
That was Madrid’s first grand crisis of the season. They were 10th in La Liga, but seven behind Barcelona.
Solari took over and even though Real Madrid have risen to third, they are now nine points off the top.
Defeat by Girona on Sunday has taken the wind out of their sails ahead of the double Clasico at the end of the month. One cup, one league.
What is true is that Solari has given the players some spark, and let Vinicius Junor shine.
