Real Madrid did not win their 11th La Liga match in a row but it was not enough to keep Leganes up. They tried everything, the Cucumbers, but were still diced in the end.
Unai Bustinza's bad marking let Sergio Ramos in for the first goal, heading home an Isco free kick. Too easy. But the lively Bryan Gil netted the equaliser before the break to give Lega hope, after good work by Jonathan Silva, who was fantastic.
But Marco Asensio put Madrid ahead after another Isco assist.
Lega needed to win and hope Celta Vigo dropped points to stay up. The Galicians did that, tying 0-0 at Espanyol, embarrassingly. But Lega could not find a winner.
They got the equaliser when Roger Assale fired through Alphonse Areola's legs. But they missed big chances as they looked for the winner.
They could have had a penalty when Luka Jovic handled in the box but VAR said no. Substitute Javier Aviles missed two big chances and Oscar Rodriguez fired over at the end.
