Julen Lopetegui pleased with Madrid win over Espanyol

The Real Madrid coach was pleased with his team's hard-fought victory

Real Madrid beat Espanyol 1-0 on Saturday night thanks to Marco Asensio's first half goal. Julen Lopetegui said what stood out from the win was that "we knew how to suffer in a very complex game".

"It was a game we had marked in red," said Lopetegui. "We knew it would be difficult, that it would be a very complex match because of the quality of our opponents, Espanyol are a team that play well, they have a very hard-working defensive strategy. They are well organised and we had a lot of wear and tear physically and emotionally.

"We were better in the first half but the important thing in the end is to keep moving forward and we got the three points."
