"I attended a gym in Italy during Real Madrid's negotiations with Wenger"

Former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger held talks about taking over at Real Madrid when he was still in charge of the Premier League side. 

Ex-Paris Saint-Germain president Charles Villeneuve, Wenger's close friend, has revealed in an interview with Paris United that he witnessed the negotiations. 

"Two clubs have always wanted him as a coach," Villeneuve said. "I attended a gym in Italy during Real Madrid's negotiations with him. But he decided to stay at Arsenal."

He added that everyone wanted Wenger after his spell with Monaco, including Bayern Munich because of his language skills. 

Wenger is currently out of work after leaving Arsenal in the summer. He has suggested he would like to return to management in the new year.
