Atletico 1-2 Real Madrid: Derby delight for Rodrygo and Valverde

The duo scored against Atletico who pulled one back from Hermoso

Atletico Madrid played better, but Real Madrid won. They are good at that, Los Blancos.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side triumphed at the Wanda Metropolitano with goals from Rodrygo and Fede Valverde, while Mario Hermoso pulled one back late on for the hosts.

He was then sent off in stoppage time for a shove on Ceballos, a harsh decision, but predictable end to a heated derby clash.

It started with racists chants aimed at Vinicius outside the stadium, who also had objects thrown at him on the pitch when he celebrated Madrid’s opener with a dance.

Rodrygo finished well after a fine pass from Tchouameni, and the Brazilians danced in the corner, which infuriated home fans.

Valverde tucked in the second at the back post after Vinicius hit the post as Madrid moved two up.

Courtois denied Carrasco and Griezmann - who started for the first time all season - as Atletico huffed and puffed but could not make a difference.

The second half was tamer, until Hermoso scored and was then dismissed, but Madrid held on to go top again, two points above Barcelona.
