Man City to offer Sergio Aguero a blank check to ward off Real Madrid interest

Manchester City hope that FC Barcelona's treble will not provoke Florentino Perez into a spending frenzy at Real Madrid. That, they fear, could lead to Los Blancos coming knocking for Sergio Aguero

The former Atletico Madrid striker's name has regularly been linked with Real Madrid, with 'El Confidencial' suggesting the Spanish side, now managed by Rafa Benitez, have already been in touch with people at City.

City's response was that Aguero is not available, that he is their star player, a key part of their project and has a contract until 2019.

Wary of Madrid's interest, though, Mansour bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, City's owner, has offered the Argentine forward a blank check to keep him away form the Bernabeu. He knows the powers Perez has, as he watched the likes of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale be won over by Madrid's president.

Madrid are close to securing Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, but are still in the market for a forward. Javier Hernandez will not remain at the club after his one-year loan deal and Jese Rodriguez may be allowed to leave.
