A lot has been spoken this week about the top goal scorers in the calendar year. Lionel Messi led the rankings until the famous day of 'Boxing Day' football in England, when English striker Harry Kane overtook him.

There's no going back. 'HurryKane' will end 2017 as the top goal scorer in Europe's biggest leagues. The Tottenham man has scored six goals in his last two games (hat-tricks against Burnley and Southampton), moving on to 56 goals, two more than Messi for club and country.

His goals against Manuel Pellegrino's Saints won't be remembered for their beauty, but they will be remembered for their value (although the third was a lovely finish).

The year 2017 ends with Kane as the best goal scorer in the world, while he also overtakes Alan Shearer as the player with the most goals in the Premier League in a calendar year (Shearer scored 36, Kane has 39).

What the England international is doing is brutal and his price in the market continues to rise. He is the first player not named Messi or Ronaldo to end the year as the top scorer since David Villa (43) in 2009.
