De Gea's Real Madrid contract revealed

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea was minutes away from becoming a Real Madrid player last summer, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute as the relevant paper work wasn’t faxed on time.

The collapse of the deal left both clubs looking bad, while they both took it upon themselves to try and blame each other for the transfer falling through.

As part of the deal, Keylor Navas - who was at Madrid airport waiting for the go ahead to fly to Manchester - was due to sign for the Premier League side.

Now, months after that fiasco, Football Leaks have claimed to have the contract which Spain stopper De Gea was due to sign - they’ve already released details regarding Gareth Bale’s 2013 transfer to Madrid and Toni Kroos’ wages.

This time they’ve posted online a document that says De Gea would have earned 11 million euros a year in a contract that would have lasted until 2021.

That equates to a salary of more than 200,000 euros a week, while the contract also stipulates he would have been paid a 10.9 million euro signing on fee.

Overall, the 25-year-old stood to earn well over 70 million euros during the course of the contract Madrid had on the table.
