Lionel Messi's show, in Cristiano Ronaldo's home

OPINION

Messi quiere seguir en el Barcelona / | sport
Joan Mª Batlle

In Madrid they wanted to see Messi's celebration as a provocation towards their fans. Nothing could be further than the truth. I understood the desolation of Madrid's fans, the impotence they felt against the best footballer of all time. Messi has only provoked Madridistas with football and goals. The gesture was for those who gave kicks instead of a spectacle, that attacked instead of trying to win the ball... this Sunday we saw many provokers and they were all, curiously, dressed in white.

This time the frustration was enormous for Madridistas. Few times have they seen a demonstration of hierarchy from a player like Messi at the Bernabeu. Leo scored two goals, provoked the red card for Sergio Ramos, should have seen Marcelo and Casemiro sent off too if the referee had any idea how to officiate. He took the league out of Madrid's hands before they could lift the title in the last minute and moved it closer to Barcelona's. Additionally it was his 500th goal for Barcelona, the only team of his life, before he showed how he felt about the love of his life, kissing the badge, showing his desire to play here for many more years. And it was a bit of revindication too, on his side for his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo. Everything Messi did, his goals, his passes, his nutmegs, his dribbles, goal No 500... he did in the home of Ronaldo. And in this home he showed his shirt with his name and the No 10, so all the world knew who was No 1. This is how you win Ballon d'Ors, everything else is noise.
