Spain make an approach for Quique Sánchez Flores

The Spanish FA won't make a move for anyone who is currently under contract and the former Espanyol coach is one of the best options available

The Spanish FA will announce their new head coach in a few hours and there are various names on the table. One of the options they've sounded out is former Espanyol and Watford coach Quique Sanchez Flores. They've been in contact with Sanchez Flores and are now waiting to hear back from him. The coach has always talked about wanting to take charge of the national team one day but this opportunity might have come too soon.

The idea is to not approach anyone who is currently under contract with a club, so this means Quique Setien has fallen off the list. The Spanish FA's president, Luis Rubiales, doesn't want to act the same way Real Madrid did and cause problems for Betis. For this reason the current remit is to find a Spanish coach who is currently out of work. Luis Enrique will be complicated because he's negotiating to take over elsewhere, but just like Michel and Sanchez Flores he's on Spain's list of targets.

One thing which does seem certain is the new coach won't come in to only take charge of team during the World Cup, as the plan is to offer the next man in the hot seat a long term deal.
