Neymar was taken off on a stretcher on Sunday just nine days before Paris Saint-Germain host Real Madrid in the Champions League.

PSG emerged 3-0 winners against Marseille with goals from Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and a Rolando own goal but the three points were tainted by the injury to Neymar.

The Brazil international was in tears as he left the pitch after appearing to injure his ankle in the 81st minute.

Alarm bells will be ringing in the French capital as Unai Emery’s side prepare for the second leg of their round of 16 tie against Madrid.

Real won the first leg 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu two weeks ago so have a job on their hands to turn things around against the current European champions.

That task will be even bigger if they’re without Neymar, a €222 million signing from Barcelona last summer.

PSG’s win over Marseille extended their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to 14 points over second place Monaco, who drew with Toulouse on Saturday.

However, it’s in the Champions League where the club’s owners are desperate for success.
