'Spanish football can't have such a disgraceful referee' as Mallenco'

Valencia sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch was far from impressed with Undiano Mallenco’s refereeing performance against Barcelona on Saturday.

Barca won 3-2 at Mestalla, but the home side were left fuming over several key decisions.

Lionel Messi won the game after Mallenco awarded a stoppage time penalty, but their complaints were that an offside Luis Suarez blocked goalkeeper Diego Alves’ view for the opening goal and a penalty not given for a Samuel Umtiti challenge on Rodrigo Moreno.

“He will be embarrassed when he looks back at this game,” Garcia Pitarch said.

“He has to take a look at himself. There were three clear incidents within half an hour.

“Messi’s first goal with Suarez offside, the second yellow offence of [Sergio] Busquets and Rodrigo’s [unawarded] penalty.

“Undiano has to take a look at himself. Spanish football can’t have such a disgraceful referee.”
