Real Madrid renew Marco Asensio until 2022

Real Madrid have rewarded young attacking midfielder Marco Asensio with a contract renewal until June 2022.

As numerous Madrid-based media outlets have reported, 'Los Blancos' will increase the player's wages, and his release clause, though his future is currently in the air.

Asensio will spend pre-season with the club's first team under manager Zinedine Zidane, but his continuity depends on the departures that take place in the coming weeks, and the offers that reach the Santiago Bernabeu for his services on loan.

Espanyol are one of the clubs best positioned as things stand, though Zidane will have the final say.

The Barcelona-based club are also interested in the loan signing of Jese Rodriguez.

The Real Madrid squad began their pre-season preparations on Saturday morning, without their internationals, with the usual medical tests and travel on Sunday to Montreal to begin their camp.

Asensio, a Mallorcan, who impressed on loan last season at Espanyol, does not yet have a shirt number assigned to him at Real Madrid.
