A judge has decided LaLiga matches will be played on Fridays; not Mondays

The first three game weeks will see league matches played on Friday until a long-term decision can be made

The latest war between LaLiga and the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) about which days are eligible for league matches is in the hands of a judge. On Friday morning, it's been decided that - for the moment at least - football matches can be played on Fridays but not Mondays.

LaLiga chief, Javier Tebas, wants matches to be played on both Fridays and Mondays. This goes against RFEF's decision which is to keep all matches on the weekend between Saturday and Sunday. The federation's belief is that would help supporters attend matches. The judge today decided that for at least the first three game weeks, matches would be played on Friday. €15m had to be deposited to ensure the ruling is respected.

This is a short-term solution to a battle which might last months. At least it means Athletic Club and Barcelona's clash will go ahead as scheduled on Friday 16th August at 21:00 local time.
