Bale strikes but limps off as Wales peg back Croatia

Gareth Bale’s well-taken strike earned Wales a 1-1 draw against Croatia to help them stay in contention for Euro 2020 qualifying, although their fate lies in Slovakia’s hands, as they must drop points.

Wales are unbeaten in eight years at home in European Championship qualifiers.

Nikola Vlasic opened the scoring for the visitors with a low drive, but Bale equalised just before half time, finishing coolly.

Bale left limping but Ryan Giggs said the forward had cramp rather than anything more worrying for Zinedine Zidane.

Ivan Rakitic came on as a substitute in the second half for Croatia - similar to how he has been used at Barcelona recently.
