It had been heavily rumoured and now it's official. Espanyol have signed Leandro Cabrera from Getafe by paying his 9 million euros release clause, in their bid to stave off relegation. Abelardo's side, who won for the first time in 10 matches at Villarreal on Sunday, have tied Cabrera to a contract that stretches to 2024.

The left-footed Uruguayan centre-back is known for his strength and aerial ability, having been crucial for Bordalas at Getafe along with Djene in recent years. He has played 18 league games this season and three in the Europa League. He has scored three goals across both competitions.
