Valencia gave it a go but they never really looked like making it through. Josip Ilicic would never have allowed it and Mestalla being empty didn't help much either.

Coronavirus threat meant that no fans were allowed in to watch the game and they missed a goddamned thriller. Diakhaby gave away a penalty within a minute and a half to really go right ahead and set the tone.

Ilicic popped it down the middle and so it began, his torture of former Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

Kevin Gameiro levelled after pouncing on a loose ball, but soon Diakhaby and Ilicic were back at it. The defender compounded his clownish display by handling in the box and Ilicic tucked away his second pen of the night.

French striker Gameiro levelled again for Valencia, and Ferran Torres lobbed home to put them ahead.

"No," said Ilicic, who drilled in the equaliser and then curled home the winner. What a player, what a team, what a night, just a shame nobody was allowed in to see it.
