Tottenham 3-0 Borussia Dortmund: Spurs put one foot in the quarters

A tight 45 gave way to dominance for the hosts at Wembley in the second period

Tottenham put one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-0 thumping of Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

Son Heung Min, the excellent Thomas Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente got the goals as Spurs secured a spectacular result.

Dortmund had some chances in the first half but after the break it was all the hosts at Wembley and Son volleyed home after 47 minutes.

Then Vertonghen slid in from Serge Aurier’s cross in the 83rd minute and three later Llorente headed in from a corner.

"It was a fantastic second half. The first half was difficult. It was a difficult game from the beginning. It was difficult to find what the best position was in both directions,” said Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

"When we had the ball we struggled to play in the way we wanted to play. The team started to feel comfortable, then we scored. And afterwards we played with more confidence.

"In the first half we played a little - not nervously - but not with the confidence. The second half was very, very good.”
