Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer expressed his compassion for his compatriot Marc-Andre ter Stegen after the 8-2 thrashing of Barcelona on Friday.
"I feel a bit of pity for Marc for letting in so many goals," said Neuer. "Obviously this is a great result for us but you don't want to see one of your national team-mates experience something like this."
Neuer has been first choice for Germany since 2010 despite Ter Stegen's form. Barca's keeper hoped to shine in Lisbon to boost his chances of dethroning Neuer. However he let in four goals in each half in his lowest moment for the club.
