Timo Werner prefers to sign for Chelsea than take part in the latter stages of the Champions League with current side RB Leipzig, according to reports in Germany.

The striker is expected to complete a move to the Premier League side ahead of next season and it's claimed he wants as much time to settle in at his new club as possible.

With the Bundesliga set to finish in the coming weeks, Werner is keen to get set up in London as soon as possible -- even if that means giving up on the Champions League.

UEFA are set to confirm when and how the competition will be completed this week, with Leipzig safely through to the last eight after knocking out Tottenham Hotspur.

It's likely to be concluded in August, with games set to be one-offs instead of two-legged affairs played at neutral venues, likely in Portugal.

However, Werner appears ready to give up on the Champions League with Leipzig in favour of accelerating his move to the London-based Chelsea.

Werner's situation may not be unique. With leagues and cups set to be played into July and August, there is uncertainty surrounding players who are out of contract this month or set to switch clubs ahead of the new season.
