Sergi Roberto deciding to have surgery on his thigh injury came after a meeting with Barcelona and also after asking people including Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Dr Ricard Pruna.

The midfielder, worried about injuries, decided to have the operation to try and get over the setback that has stopped him from performing at his best in recent times.

He met Xavi and Dr Xavier Valle, the interim first-team head of medical services. It was decided he would be operated on by Doctor Lasse Lepainen in Finland.

He spoke to Dr Pruna for an outside opinion and also former Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta. He suffered the same injury last season and decided to be operated on while with Vissel Kobe. Iniesta explained to Sergi that he had recovered well and can play without problems, advising him to go the same way.

When the operation is done, Sergi Roberto will be out for four months, likely.
