Xavi: "If it was up to me I would never leave Barcelona"

Speaking to Canal+, Xavi Hernandez spoke about his current standing after an agitated summer which saw him, several times, standing on the edge of leaving Barcelona.

In the end, thanks to words from Luis Enrique, he did decide to carry on his legacy at Camp Nou.

"If it was up to me I would never leave Barcelona," the 34-year-old midfielder explained.

"However, sometimes circumstances are in charge of the situation.

"I had been about to leave several times but in the end it was my feelings which made me stay.

"I told the club that I did not want to play for another club in Europe, I didn't want to face Barça.

"I wanted to end my career here."

Xavi also spoke in the interview about some of his colleagues at the club, like Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.

"He's the most talented Spanish player in history," he said about Iniesta.

"All the concepts that we have worked on with Barcelona for so many years can be understood perfectly by watching Iniesta play."

And what about Messi?

"For me he is the greatest player in history," Xavi said of his Argentine teammate.

"For me he is the number one in the world."

Finally, Barça's captain remembered Tito Vilanova, who passed away earlier this year after battling cancer.

"He was an extraordinary person," he concluded.

"Kind, a winner, a football man and close to us. He has left a huge footprint."
