Xavi has spoken for the first time following Barcelona's interest in him taking over from coach Ernesto Valverde. The Al-Sadd manager spoke after his side's qualification for the final of the Qatar Cup.

In a press conference after the game, Xavi responded to questions about Barça's interest and his meeting with Eric Abidal on Friday, which he confirmed took place.

"That is my dream I cannot hide it," he said about coaching Barcelona. "Everyone knows that. I support Barcelona from the bottom of my heart but my focus is on Al-Sadd.

"Yes Abidal is my friend, I met many times with him. But I do not say anything (..). I want to have respect for Barcelona, Valverde and my club. I am doing my job here, doing my bes. We are in a final. I am very happy. I'm happy to coach Al Sadd.

Pressed further, he added: "I cannot say anything, I am focused on Al Sadd. They were here to talk to me, we discuss many things, they were here also to check on Ousmane Dembele. That's all. I cannot say anything. Sorry.

"I cannot inform you too much. Just that I met with Abidal, my friend (...) I am focused on my team Al Sadd. I respect a lot the club, the players and also Valverde."
