When could Barça's Leo Messi score his 500th goal in La Liga?

After reaching 400, does the Argentine have time to score another 100?

Lionel Messi scored his 400th La Liga goal in Barcelona 3-0 win over Eibar on Sunday. The Argentine reached the figure by beating Riesgo to double Barça's lead on the night after being set up by Luis Suarez.

Curiously, Messi's numbers have evolved in a very rounded way. In 2005, against Albacete, he scored his fist goal in La Liga after an assist from the Brazilian Ronaldinho.

Five year later, against Almeria, he brought up goal 100 in Spain's top flight. Since then, Messi has scored 100 league goals every three years. In 2013, he scored number 200 against Osasuna; in 2016, 300 fell against Sporting Gijon; and on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, he scored his 400th against Eibar.

If he keeps that average going, Messi would score number 500 in La Liga in 2022. Although, as he is Messi, anything is possible, so it's not impossible that it arrives earlier -- especially considering how early in the calendar year goal 500 dropped.

Remember that Messi is the top scorer in the history of La Liga. No other player has reached 400. Only Cristiano Ronaldo has even hit 300. He scored 311 before leaving for Juventus last summer.
