TER STEGEN (7) Sweeper
He touched the ball more with his hands than his feet, demonstrating his ability on the ball. Nothing he could really do about the goal.
MONTOYA (7) Serious
The Canterano was handed a starting place ahead of Dani Alves and produced a good performance. He showed good concentration and defended his zone well, notable doing well against Vietto in the 31st minute.
PIQUÉ (8) Booked
Villarreal demanded Pique played well — and he did. The central defender was courageous and clever, continuing his impressive recent form.
MASCHERANO (8) Versatile
He started in defence and then, after the injury to Busquets, went into midfield. He was brilliant in both positions and assisted Suarez's goal.
ALBA (7) Defensive
The full-back had few chances to show his pace on the left side and was largely forced to play a more defensive role, which he did well. As always, he ended the match having given his all.
RAFINHA (7) Hard-working
The Brazilian was the biggest surprise in Luis Enrique's side. He fought hard, never stopped working and recovered three balls, although he did lose five. He pressed well and will have been satisfied with his performance.
BUSQUETS (7) Injured
Barça's defensive midfielder didn't finish the game because of a late tackle from Pina just before Villarreal's equaliser.
INIESTA (7) Captain
Captain for the night, Iniesta was always involved and worked hard for Barça to control the match. He stood out for his sublime touch and his creativity (one great pass which Suarez couldn't take advantage of).
MESSI (7) Assist
He gave the assist for Neymar's goal after just three mintes. He was more noticeable for the way he dictated play, rather than his goal threat. He took the role of leader and was regularly fouled by the opposition.
SUÁREZ (8) Decisive
The Uruguayan forward is in good form. This was his fourth goal in three games and he demonstrated a wide range of characteristics here: technique, finishing, power...
NEYMAR (8) Effective
His first touch gave Barcelona the lead. His last touch made it 3-1 on the night, 6-2 on aggregate. After a threre-game goal drought, this was just the type of performance he needed.
SUBSTITUTES
MATHIEU (7) Solid
Replaced Busquets in the 42nd minute, dropping in alongside Pique. He dominated in the air and convered the space well. A good night's work.
