Brazilian midfielder Matheus Fernandes has joined Real Valladolid on loan until the end of the season, the La Liga side confirmed late on Friday.

Fernandes, 21, had earlier signed for Barcelona from Palmeiras in a deal worth an initial seven million euros. He will head to Camp Nou in the summer.

He joined Palmeiras at the end of 2018 from Botafogo, who will pocket 25 percent of the fee. He made 74 appearances in the Brazilian league (63 with Botafogo and 11 with Palmeiras), scoring two goals. He has also featured in the Copa Libertadores (8 games) and the Copa Sudamericana (5 games). He's represented Brazil at U17 and U20 level.

Valladolid announced the signing late on transfer day, with the player posing with the club's shirt alongside the president, Ronaldo. He will not go into Sergio Gonzalez's squad for the second half of the season.
