Leo Messi’s future lies at Barcelona. He will take a 50 per cent pay cut and stay at the club of his life. However there were plenty of rumours that linked him to Paris Saint-Germain.

Leandro Paredes, the PSG midfielder, and Messi’s Argentina team-mate, spoke to ESPN and closed the door to the idea of the No 10 coming to Paris.

“They spoke about it a lot at the club when we found out Leo could come to Paris. It was a dream to imagine that he could be here with us next season, but it’s not going to be like that, I hope that he likes the place where he is playing.”

Both players won the Copa America together this summer.

“It was a fantastic group, with incredible people and top level players,” added Paredes. “The truth is we enjoyed the 45 days we spent together.”
