Gerard Pique has agreed a new deal with Barcelona until 2022, the club confirmed n Thursday.
Pique, 31 next month, will see his buyout clause rise from €200 million to €500m as part of the deal.
The defender’s current terms had been due to expire next year, at the end of the 2018-19 season.
“FC Barcelona and player Gerard Piqué have reached an agreement to renew the player's contract through to 30 June 2022,” Barça said.
“His buyout clause has been set at 500m euros. In the coming days the club will announce the date of the official signing of the new contract, which will keep the La Masia product at FC Barcelona for the rest of the current season and for the next four years.”
Pique is one of the symbols of La Masia and Barça played heavily on that in the announcement of the new deal.
The centre-back joined the club as a 10-year-old, briefly leaving for a spell at Manchester United before returning in 2008 for €5 million.
