With the number of verified signatures now beyond the necessary threshold (16,521), the wheels are in motion on when the vote of no confidence against Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu will take place. The committee will continue to validate the signatures to see how many there were in total, but it's not definitive and Mes que una Mocio, the group behind the campaign, know they have achieved their goal.
What's next? Before anything, health authorities in Catalonia must approve the referendum taking place due to the coronavirus pandemic.
If that gets the all-clear, the steps to follow are: the board of directors is obliged to call a referendum in no less than 10 days but not more than 20 days. The call for voting must be made public by the board in the manner indicated in article 43.2 of these bylaws and with a minimum notice of five working days. From there, if the vote is successful, Bartomeu and his board would be relegated from their positions.
Then, elections would be scheduled to appoint a new president.
