"Messi to Man City? They're a club that compete outside of the rules"

La Liga chief Javier Tebas criticised City's financial structure amid Messi pursuit

Javier Giraldo

La Liga president Javier Tebas spoke on Tuesday about the possibility of Manchester City signing Lionel Mess from Barcelona at the end of the season.

As has been the case in the past, Tebas did not miss the chance to criticise City for his belief that they are breaching financial rules.

"The only club in the Premier League that talks about registering Messi is Manchester City," Tebas said. "Since Man City compete outside rules, what I am worried about is that they are able to access a player by breaching UEFA's [FFP] rules.

"It's not only me complaining about this. [Liverpool coach Jurgen] Klopp and [Tottenham's Jose] Mourinho have also complained about City.

"I have criticised what City do so many times, doing it one more time makes no difference. They're not affected by Covid-19, by pandemics or by anything because they're financed differently and it's impossible to fight against that."
