Barcelona are looking not only for players now but also at potential signings for later. The club are considering long-term target Jose Luis Gaya, which Mateu Alemany views as an interesting and plausible market opportunity. In the summer the conditions might be right to strike.
Jordi Alba has not had competition for years. Gaya could add that. He is in negotiations over his contract at Valencia, which expires in 2023. Nothing has been agreed so far. Plus Valencia need to earn around 37m euros and the captain could be one of the players to raise that money. He’s always looked to be over 30m, but might be cheaper with just a year and a half left on his deal. The Valencia to Barcelona route is well-trodden too.
The Catalans are also looking out for how Alex Balde evolves, as a potential option at left-back, but he might be loaned out at the end of the season to help his growth.
