Marc-Andre ter Stegen watched from the bench as Germany suffered a 3-0 beating by Holland in Amsterdam. Neuer was at fault for the first Dutch goal, coming off his line and getting lost when Memphis Depay whipped in a corner which Ryan Babel headed against the bar. With Neuer in no-man's land, Virgil van Dijk headed into the empty net.

However he couldn't do much about the other two goals, with Depay scoring on the counter and then Georginio Wijnaldum hammering in the third.

"We could have taken the lead early on. Then we try getting back into the game and were more open at the back, so we conceded a second and third goal," said Neuer.

"There will be lots of criticism now. But things could have ended differently today."
