Lyon knocked five million euros of Memphis Depay's price tag to facilitate a transfer to Barcelona which never happened in the end, according to 'De Telegraaf'.

The French club dropped their asking price with the transfer window close to 20 million euros plus five million euros in add-ons when they'd previously been asking for 25 million euros with five million in add-ons.

However, Barça's failure to move on Ousmane Dembele to Manchester United closed the door on the Dutch striker's arrival at Camp Nou.

In an interview with NOS on Monday, Barça coach Ronald Koeman made it clear he wanted Depay and that Depay wanted to make the switch to Camp Nou.

The price was already relatively cheap due to the fact Depay's contract is due to expire next summer, when he can leave Lyon for free.

In the end, Koeman was left without the striker he wanted and, instead, with Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho, Ansu Fati, Trincao, Pedri, Ousmane Dembele and Martin Braithwaite.
