Barcelona missed out on one of the biggest talents in football at the moment, Joan Laporta revealed this week, in reference to the Liverpool forward Luis Diaz.
"We had a conversation with his agent," Laporta said on a trip to Colombia, but the Premier League side were already in advanced negotiations over a deal.
When the Colombian international was leaving Porto, Laporta had only just returned to the Barça president and the finances did not allow a move.
"At that moment, we had only just come into the club really and Liverpool were ahead of us," Laporta explained.
"There was a moment when we considered signing him but we still had to sort out the financial situation and they beat us to him.
"He is a great player but he belongs to Liverpool now, although I admit in the past, when he was leaving Porto, that we had a chat with his agent.
Luis Díaz loves Barça
Five years ago, when asked about his favorite team, Díaz did not hesitate to answer: "A team where I would like to play? Barcelona."
The Colombian forward, currently injured, is a regular fixture in Jurgen Klopp's XI, even more so after Sadio Mané's departure to Bayern Munich last summer.
