If Frenkie de Jong wants to stay at Barcelona, he knows what he has to do - lower his salary. The club have told him so. If he wants to remain at Camp Nou, it’s essential. The sum suggested for him to renounce, per some reports, is 4 million euros net per year.

De Jong has one of the highest salaries in the squad and Barcelona want him to fit into the new salary structure. Because it’s a complicated issue, Barcelona want Jordi Cruyff to be their point of contact with him, the sports technical secretary and fellow Dutchman. They think that is the way to get Frenkie to accept a cut.

He has proven reluctant to leave Barcelona, because he doesn’t want to go to Manchester United. Barcelona would get 85m euros from the sale if he left. Barcelona hope Chelsea interest could result in him leaving for Stamford Bridge.
