| sport

The Oviedo sporting director Francesc Arnau could be a surprise Joan Laporta appointment for Barcelona, according to the Tiempo Anadido show on RPA. The former Barcelona goalkeeper could replace Ramon Planes for next season.

The Catalan, who was Malaga’s technical secretary between 2015 and 2018, is also liked by Mateu Alemany, Laporta’s right hand man, who will be the new director of football.

The former Barca and Malaga player has a contract with Oviedo, where he landed in 2019, until the end of next season. This season he has generated some frustration among fans for some poor signings.

He knows Barcelona well having come through the youth system, reaching the first team under Louis van Goal. In 2001 he headed to Malaga, where he spent 10 years before retiring.

He played 32 games for Barca, winning La Liga in 98-99, and a total of 126 games in the top flight.
