Barcelona had a Plan B in case they were unable to complete a deal to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, who joined for €55 million this past summer.
According to Catalunya Radio, the club had sounded out the possible signing of Inter centre-back Milan Škriniar.
Barça went all out to sign Kounde and finally reached an agreement to sign the France international. He was Xavi Hernandez's first choice and they beat Chelsea to his signature.
However, the club had also lined up alternative options in case a deal was not possible and Škriniar was one of the names on their list, although it never became close to reality.
Firstly, because Barça preferred Kounde and secondly because Inter wanted €70 million for Škriniar, who is out of contract next summer and also of interest to Paris Saint-Germain.
