Barcelona’s sporting department, led by Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff are taking a breather during the Easter break.
Next week they will return to work and contacts will intensify in terms of renewals for Gavi, Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele.
Gavi’s is the most urgent. He’s a key player for Xavi and has a deal that expires in 2023, and a release clause of 50m euros.
Various clubs are knocking on his agent Ivan de la Pena’s door.
A deal is still a way off. Gavi’s people consider him a key player for the club and a fixture now with the Spain team under Luis Enrique, so think his salary should rise accordingly.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are trying to impose a salary structure and it doesn’t work if a 17 year old goes in too high.
