Exclusive: Lionel Messi will not rest in recovery bid

Lionel Messi knows that if he wants to be back to 100 per cent for the City game he cannot stop his recovery

JAVIER MIGUEL

Lionel Messi is focused 100 per cent on recovering from the injury he suffered against Atletico Madrid on September 21 at Camp Nou. The forward will come into the club's sports centre on Friday to continue his recovery even though the squad has been given time off until Monday. Luis Enrique gave three days holiday to his players, but Messi will only have one day of rest this week - on Sunday he can take a breather.

The objective is that Messi arrives at 100 per cent for the game against Man City in 13 days. The player, who is recovering from his groin problem at the expected rate will receive medical clearance to play next Monday so he can feature for 30 minutes against Deportivo de la Coruna.

Messi will keep working with physical trainer Edu Pons on the pitch and physiotherapist Roger Girones when in the gym. Doctor Ricard Pruna completes the trident of professionals who are looking after the Argentine forward.

The next step is working with the ball. In that moment the player can test his recovery, above all in his right leg which is where the problem is.
