Former Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has spoken for the first time since being replaced by Quique Setien at Camp Nou a month ago.

Valverde, 56, said the only game he's seen in full since is Barça's Copa del Rey loss at San Mames against Athletic Bilbao, while he also suggested he'd prefer to coach in Australia than the Premier League.

Here's what he said at an event in Bilbao on Thursday:

Coaching Barcelona: "I was incredibly lucky to coach Barcelona. I know what it means there from all points of view and I am delighted to have had the chance. When you sign the contract you know that everything depends on results and that the coach will always be responsible. I don't think about if I have been untreated fairly. I understand the question, but it's time to turn the page and not look back."

What next? "People ask me sometimes: 'How about the Premier League?' and I say: 'Well actually I'd like to go to Australia.' A career in football does not last forever and sometimes you think you have to take the opportunity to live in strange places."

Japan? "I applauded Andres when he told me he was going to Japan. I thought: 'Wow, he gets to understand a different culture and different people,' and I am also very interested in Japan. You can take great photos in Japan. There are many places I would like to go. We will see what I end up doing. I haven't been out of work for very long so I don't have to decide anything yet, I haven't got a very clear idea at the moment. It's possible I would go somewhere abroad. The truth is I like to do strange things so I wouldn't rule it out."

Liverpool and Roma: "For me, they were different. In Roma, we were not in the game. In Liverpool, when we started to play they scored the goal we wanted to avoid. One goal would have taken us through and in one minute they scored two goals. They're situations that happen. In the first leg against Liverpool we suffered a lot but we could have scored four goals."
