Little by little, Barcelona are tying down the players who won the UEFA Youth League this season. They will form the base of next season's Barça B side who will play in the third tier of Spanish football after being relegated.
The centre-back Juan Brandáriz, better known as 'Chumi' (because that's what his dad called him affectionately when he was younger), has signed a new two-year deal with a three more years optional.
One of the most eye catching aspects of the deal is the release clause: it has risen to 100 million euros. It's a sign of Barça's intent to stop their young players being picked off by other clubs.
Chumi joined Barça in 2014 from Deportivo La Coruna and was soon promoted to the Juvenil B team, where he worked under Garcia Pimienta, who is now the Barça B coach.
