Before the coronavirus ground European football to a halt, Bayern Munich were negotiating new contracts for three key players in David Alaba, Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer, but the circumstances have radically changed.
While Barcelona are trying to extend Marc-Andre ter Stegen's contract, which ends in 2022, Bayern could have changed their strategy: in place of Neuer, the Bavarian club could try and sign the La Liga club's goalkeeper.
Both Alaba and Muller are asking for long-term deals to commit their futures to Bayern and the club don't seem ready to dish them out. As for Neuer, he is a 33-year-old player with a history of injuries.
CONTACT FOR TER STEGEN
Ter Stegen, six years younger than Neuer, would fit the profile Bayern are looking for, to the point that they have been in touch to sound out his situation.
The tense relationship between Neuer and Franz Beckenbauer, Bayern's honorary president, could further complicate his renewal and push Bayern towards Ter Stegen.
